Rooted in the Spanish word for “clown,” these unique birds have blue feet that look like socks and a very rare mating dance that you will not want to miss.
Galapagos land Iguana
The land iguana is native to the Galápagos Islands. These creatures often have a mean, angry look on their faces, but in fact, are harmless, eating mostly low-growing plants and shrubs.
Marine Iguana
Marine iguanas look very similar to their cousins the land iguanas. However, they have one distinct unique skill—they can live in water and dive to depths of 30-feet. Their favourite feast is algae and intertidal seaweed.
Darwin’s Finches
You guessed it – this type of bird was discovered by Charles Darwin! It refers to 15 species of birds that are only differentiated by their beak formation and function.
Flightless Cormorants
Known as one of the world’s rarest birds, these are a treat to see. The 2000 birds remaining inhabit only two of the Galápagos Islands because of their need to dive into the water for food and their inability to fly.
Galápagos Tortoise
This is the largest living species of tortoise. They can weigh up to almost 1000 lbs and have a lifespan of over 100 years in the wild. Seeing these magnificent animals in the wild is a truly humbling experience.
