Mexico is among a few select nations that have very few health protocols for entry for Canadians. There are currently no quarantine periods for travelers entering Mexico (as of December 4, 2020).
Mexico does not require Covid-19 tests before or after arriving; however, visitors may be subject to a temperature check and general health screening.
Canadian residents’ passports must be valid for the expected duration of your stay in Mexico.
Travelers should also have valid travel insurance that covers Covid-19 for the duration of their trip.
Cancun COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Procedures
Cancun is a great place to travel if you want to vacation to Mexico this winter. In fact, the Yucatan Peninsula (Cancun, Cozumel, and Riviera Maya) has not been significantly affected by COVID-19 and it is considered okay for travel by the government of Canada!
Cancun has recently made a new law that can issue fines to people that refuse to wear a face covering, which further adds to the safety of the destination.
Cancun became one of the first destinations in the Americas to receive the “Global Safety Stamp” issued by the WTTC to destinations that adopted its standards for traveler protection!
Strict hygiene and health protocols have been put in place in all Mexican destinations to guarantee the well-being of all citizens and visitors.

Returning to Canada
The Government of Canada has put in place emergency measures to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in Canada. When you return to Canada (unless you are flying direct into Calgary*), you must quarantine for 14 days, provide contact information, and monitor yourself for symptoms.
*2-Day Quarantine Pilot Project at Calgary International Airport:
The Province of Alberta, the Government of Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada recently announced an arrival testing program at YYC. Eligible arriving international passengers will be able to voluntarily get a free COVID-19 test upon arrival in Canada at YYC Calgary International Airport, when arriving direct on a non-stop flight. This will allow them to quarantine for less time (2 days vs 14 days), provided they test negative for COVID-19 and if they commit to following specific public health and testing measures.
