You will be forever changed

A voyage with Lindblad Expeditions will leave you forever changed … for the better. Founder Lars-Eric Lindblad believed in the power of travel and the joy of discovery. He had a vision of taking travellers to remote areas of the planet where only scientists had previously been in an effort to educate and inspire them to protect and preserve these areas.

“Educated people who see things with their own eyes will be a potent force for the preservation of the places they visit.” – Lars-Eric Lindblad

Today, Lindblad’s son Sven-Olaf Lindblad continues to uphold his legacy by providing transformative travel experiences in the world’s most remarkable places. Find out more about Lindblad Expeditions here.

What makes Lindblad Expeditions so special?

You can trust Lindblad due to their long history as a pioneer of expedition travel

Lindblad Expeditions was founded by Lars-Eric Lindblad more than 50 years ago. He pioneered expedition travel to remote areas and is known as the father of eco-tourism. After all these years, they know what they’re doing, and you can trust their experience and expertise.

You can feel good about travelling with Lindblad Expeditions

Lindblad Expeditions holds itself to the highest standard when it comes to sustainability and responsible travel. Sustainability has been at the core of its green business model for more than five decades. Their operations are environmentally friendly, and they continually work toward the conservation of nature and the preservation of cultural heritage. No matter where they travel, they take steps to make the smallest carbon footprint possible and to leave the area as they found it … or better. They give back to communities they visit by purchasing local food and other goods as much as possible, and by hiring locals whenever they can. They focus 100% on sustainable travel with an aim to create positive lasting changes on our planet.

Fall in love with Lindblad’s passion for exploratory travel

The staff and crew members of each Lindblad ship and every Expedition Team are extremely passionate about exploratory travel and discovery. Some have been with Lindblad for 40 years and still share their knowledge with the fierce passion of someone just starting out in the industry. They are driven by their desire to make the world a better place and to inspire others to discover the same passion through experience and education.

Adore National Geographic? They do, too!

In many ways, Lars-Eric Lindblad was inspired to embark on expedition travel to remote corners of the world by reading National Geographic magazine. The articles and photos of Antarctica, Galapagos, Papa New Guinea and China – to name a few – inspired him to explore on his own and then to bring other people along.

To put it simple, both Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic share a heritage and a passion for exploration. Our two organizations exist to bring travellers (arm-chair or actual) to remote, untrammelled, fascinating places on the planet, and provide them with an unprecedented platform and unrivalled expertise to better appreciate the geography they’re exploring.

In 2004, Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society formed an unprecedented alliance with a shared mission to inspire people to explore and care about their world. Since then, in addition to taking guests on amazing expeditions, the fleet of ships serves as a platform for National Geographic researchers, scientists, writers, photographers and field crews.

Giving back to community

Together, Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic raise some $750,000 a year in a joint fund to support projects ranging from scholarships for students in the Galapagos Islands, to purchasing tags for scientists studying killer whales in waters surrounding the Antarctic Peninsula.

Lindblad’s ships are top of the line

Lindblad Expedition-National Geographic has eight expedition ships and five other leased vessels. In April 2020, another ship will be launched – the National Geographic Endurance. And in 2021, its sister ship – the National Geographic Resolution – is expected to launch.
These ships are built to carry as many as 126 guests – small enough for intimate travel and for adverurous excursions to remote areas. The expedition ships are lean and nimble so they can safely venture where larger cruise ships cannot go. They are, however, more than comfortable with 75% of the cabins featuring balconies.
The National Geographic Endurance was designed and built by the Ulstein Group in Norway. The new polar vessel will include multiple observation decks inside and out. As well, it will have a helicopter landing platform. Other features include heated glass domes on top of the ship, a main lounge where you can mingle with the crew and Expedition Team, a full fitness centre, yoga suite, sauna and jacuzzi. It also boasts two restaurants with the largest one offering each table a glass wall for spectacular views.

Turning bold commitments into meaningful impacts

As of 2019, Lindblad Expeditions has offset 100% of carbon emissions from their ships – making them a completely carbon neutral company. They also offset all emissions from their land-based operations, employee travel, and their offices in New York and Seattle. All of their carbon project investments align with the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals.

Lindblad helps you discover some of the most beautiful, remote and wild places on earth

Antarctic was the first destination where Lars-Eric Lindblad chose to take a small group of travellers – most of them women. He was also the first person to ever lead a citizen-explorer expedition. More than 50 years later, Antarctica is still a top destination for Lindblad Expeditions. It is considered one of the most beautiful, remote, wild places on earth.
The following year, in 1967, Lars-Eric travelled to the Galápagos Islands – still a favourite destination of the tour company. Located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, approximately 975 kilometres off the west coast of South America, there are 18 main islands, three smaller islands and several inlets.

Lindblad’s off-ship excursions are exciting and life-changing

Although their ships are nice enough to remain on for your entire voyage, that’s only part of your adventure. Lindblad Expeditions are designed to get you out in the world, to experience first-hand the wonder of your environment.
Every day, rain or shine, you will find yourself out and about. You could be speeding on the ocean in a Zodiac boat trying to capture a pod of killer whales.  Or you might find yourself hiking in Tikal to explore the Maya ruins and stone temples. Perhaps you’ll sail to the Isle of Skye in Scotland and explore the castles after walking on the moors and then have a picnic with Scottish locals.

Everything you need is included!

All of their tour itineraries and excursions are carefully planned to provide you with the most unique and amazing experience possible. And an added bonus, all of the equipment – such as Zodiac boats, kayaks, paddle boards, snowshoes, trekking poles, snorkelling gear, etc. – is included in one overall price. When you book, you will receive a comprehensive list of everything in the lending locker, so you will know ahead of time.
Lindblad Expeditions believes in immersive, life-changing experiences, so don’t expect to spend your time reading a book in your stateroom. I mean, you can if you want to, but we don’t think you will.
